TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group, will demonstrate how the migration toward an all-HD television universe is now realistic at IBC2009 at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam Sept. 11-15, showcasing what it calls the world’s first MPEG-4 AVC HD 4:2:2 system solution for the contribution and distribution market.
The system includes the world’s first MPEG-4 AVC HD 4:2:2 encoder and professional receiver, which supports up to 1080p50/60 HD encoding and offers 10-bit precision, enabling large-scale migration from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 AVC for the high quality 4:2:2 HD video used in the professional market, where one of the main requirements is moving content from its point of origin to where it will be transmitted. Content owners and broadcasters will be able to deliver higher-quality video for the same cost or meet current service requirements with less bandwidth, the company says.
The global launch of the next-generation TANDBERG Television MPEG-4 AVC HD encoder for 4:2:0 video will also occur at IBC2009, and the company says the EN8190 encoder enables an additional HD channel per transponder for satellite operators when compared with alternative compression solutions. The EN8190 will enable the launch of HD services on low-bandwidth digital-subscriber-line networks, HDTV delivered over longer DSL-loop lengths, and simultaneous HD and SD streams to the home, enabling watch/record digital-video-recorder functionality and multiroom experiences.
