Harris Corporation is showcasing its latest digital technology solutions at HD World 2009 being held October 14–15 in the Javits Convention Center. These Harris solutions enable customers to improve efficiency, create new revenue streams and reduce the costs of operations — all while easily and affordably transitioning from SD to HD and all the way to 1080p broadcasting.
Signal Processing
Making its North American debut is the new cost-effective X50 frame synchronizer/converter – a single-channel platform that delivers exceptional quality and functionality. The X50 synchronizer/converter features up-, down- and cross-conversion, eight analog and four AES inputs and outputs, and 16 channels of embedded audio processing. Standard features include color correction, closed caption/teletext capabilities, control and monitoring via a built-in Web server, support for Active Format Description (AFD) and two fully controllable Aspect Ratio Converters.
Servers
Making its North American debut is NEXIO Volt — a new 1RU video server that provides direct access to the NEXIO shared storage network. A new addition to the NEXIO product family, NEXIO Volt provides SD and HD baseband I/O and exceptional reliability in a slim-line package. Supporting up to four SD/HD- or SD-only channels, NEXIO Volt brings high-channel density, space savings, and lower cost of ownership to the NEXIO product family.
News and Production
The entire Harris NewsForce HD/SD production platform is upgraded — with a major new release featuring global proxy file support and integration with Harris Invenio digital asset management. Global proxy support for the NEXIO Browse suite enables NewsForce integration with low-resolution files from any IT storage system. By using a common-file format, global proxy support eliminates redundant proxy generation to streamline the production workflow, and makes NEXIO proxy files available for viewing on common players like QuickTime Player and Windows Media Player.
Test and Measurement
Visitors to the show will see a demonstration of the new Videotek Compact Monitor series (CMN-41 and CMN-91) for testing signal integrity across all DTV broadcast signal formats up to 3 Gb/s — in a half-rack, energy-saving design. Each model provides a compact footprint of less than 7 inches in depth, two HD/SD-SDI inputs with optional 3 Gb/s (1080p) capability, one AES input and metering for 16 channels of embedded audio.
Multiviewers
HD World sees the North American debut of the award-winning Predator II-GX. A complete HD control and monitoring solution at an excellent price-point, the Predator II-GX is available in a 1 or 2RU frame, making it best-suited to outside broadcast vans, production centers, monitoring facilities, or master control rooms that require a flexible, scalable architecture.
Broadcast Graphics
Also at the Harris booth will be a comprehensive workflow demonstration of the Harris broadcast graphics workflow in action — including the first demo in North America of the all-new Inscriber G5, a powerful all-in-one broadcast graphics system. Featuring the Harris Altitude Express graphics board, the 3RU G5 delivers 2D and 3D real-time graphics on a single channel in SD or HD. It can easily be incorporated into the workflow of any automated, live news/sports broadcast environment through the use of the industry-standard Intelligent Interface or MOS protocols, or via the new version of the Harris Direct Control 2 interface — which enables users to manage graphics content, build playlists and control multiple CG systems from a single interface.
Networking
At HD World, Harris will demo the 1RU SYS-H264 encoder, which supports H.264 4:2:2 profile HD (1080i/720p), as well as up to 16 channels of audio input capability — with both DVB-ASI and IP outputs. With its low latency of less than 350 ms, the SYS-H264 can be used in a variety of contribution applications, including sporting events and ENG/SNG.
