One of the most dramatic games in Grey Cup history attracted a record-breaking number of viewers, with 6.1 million Canadians tuning in for the CFL title game. The game marks the most-watched Grey Cup in history, as well as Canada’s highest-rated program of 2009.

At one point or another, 43% (more than 14 million people) of the nation’s population watched this year’s Grey Cup on TSN’s English broadcast and RDS’s French broadcast. Viewership peaked at 9:49 p.m. ET, when 8.35 million people watched Montreal Alouettes kicker Damon Duval kick a field goal as time expired, securing a 28-27 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

This year’s rating surpasses the previous Grey Cup high set in 2002 when 5.2 million viewers watched Montreal take down the Edmonton Eskimos for its first title since 1949. TSN set a record of its own, bringing in 5.087 million viewers and obliterating the network’s previous high of 3.7 million for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship Gold Medal game.

Comcast SportsNet Chicago Rides Bulls to Ratings Increases
Comcast SportsNet Chicago posted significant television ratings for the first month of the 2009-10 NBA season, which resulted in solid game and post-game ratings increases compared with last season.

Comcast SportsNet’s Bulls games scored a 2.90 household average rating in November, a 41% increase over last November’s 2.06 average. Among men 25-54, monthly ratings were up 57% (to 2.2 from 1.4 last year). In adults 25-54, November monthly ratings increased 67% (1.5 from 0.9 last year).

On Nov. 10 vs. Denver, Comcast SportsNet delivered its second-highest-ever Bulls regular-season rating with a 4.3 household rating. In addition to increases for game telecasts, Comcast SportsNet’s Toyota Bulls Post Game Live household ratings were up a solid 75% from last November.

NBC’s Sunday Night Football Is Tops for 10th Time In 11 Weeks
NBC Sunday Night Football was the No. 1 broadcast on Sunday night for the 10th time in 11 weeks, with the Baltimore Ravens’ 20-17 overtime victory over defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

SNF was again the No. 1 show of the night in the metered markets. Sunday Night Football registered a 12.6 overnight rating/20 share (8:30-11:45 p.m. ET). That rating is up 17% from last year’s Week 12 game, in which Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts defeated the San Diego Chargers 23-20 (10.8/17).
