FlashNet Archive Gives Al-Jazeera Sport Easy Access to UEFA Footage

Inter Milan Manager Jose Mourinho doubtless took great satisfaction in the 2-1 victory over his old club Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League knockout-round first leg, particularly since broadcasters will be replaying the winning goals at every opportunity. Among those broadcasters will be Al-Jazeera Sport, which has been using a new FlashNet archive system since the beginning of the group stages to give easier access to footage.

The SGL system has been installed at The London Studios, from where ITV Sport provides Al-Jazeera Sport with coverage of European football, including domestic and international competitions.

FlashNet is running in conjunction with Avid Interplay Craft workstations, which are used to select archive material for playout at any time. It offers approximately 1,000 hours of SD storage and was selected by The London Studios for its ability to integrate with the Avid system.

“We chose SGL because of its strong relationship with Avid, its open-system architecture, and scalability,” says The London Studios Technology Manager Paul Drewett, adding that FlashNet also met all requirements and time constraints.
