ESPN 3D To Go 24-7 on Feb. 14

ESPN announced at CES that its six-month-old 3D network will go 24-7 beginning on Feb. 14. Until now, ESPN 3D has only been on air for live events. However, beginning next month, the network will begin airing content 24 hours per day. The bulk of the content will be composed of replays of previously televised ESPN 3D events, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the MLB Home-Run Derby, X Games, NCAA football and basketball, NBA basketball.

“As we continue to expand the number of 3D events on the channel, it made sense operationally to transition ESPN 3D to a 24-7 network,” said Sean Bratches, executive vice president, sales and marketing for Disney and ESPN Media Networks.  “We’ve been very pleased with the rate at which our affiliates have adopted ESPN 3D in its first year and we continue to look for new ways to serve fans, advertisers and affiliates with the best 3D sports content available.”

Upcoming live events on the ESPN 3D schedule include the BCS National Championship Game, a plethora of NBA games, and the Winter X Games. On Jan 7, ESPN 3D will host a special edition of College Football Live on the Sony Stage at CES with Rece Davis, Lou Holtz and Mark May. The trio will preview the BCS National Championship Game and discuss how ESPN 3D is changing sports viewing.

The 24-7 network will be available to Comcast and DirecTV subscribers as well as Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-verse TV subscribers that dish out $10 for the premium 3D tier. In addition, Verizon FiOS will begin carrying ESPN 3D sometime in 2011.
