Coastal Media Group Unveils Tapeless Carry/Flypack System

At the NAB Show, Coastal Media Group announced the latest addition to its offering of mobile-production solutions with a tapeless carry/flypack production system. The HD/SD multicamera system offers tapeless recording to solid-state media and is targeted at applications where a full mobile-production truck is not needed or cannot be accommodated.

“If you’re going to a remote location where you can’t get a truck to, you can bring this in,” explains Bob Adler, president/CEO of Coastal Media Group. “This is for applications where they want to create a smaller package or a Webcast.”

The tapeless system is equipped with five Panasonic P2 cameras and 5,000 ft. of camera fiber, a multiview monitor wall, a For-A HVS 12-input switcher, and a Yamaha 32-input digital audio board and is transported in manageable road cases. The system rents for $4,000 plus $500 per camera.

“It’s a professional setup that gets you much more than what the cheap version does,” Adler says. “If you rent a flypack, you don’t get fiber, so you can’t go more than 300 ft. This is tapeless and comes with 5,000 ft. of SMPTE-fiber camera cabling and RTS communications. It gives you all those extra things.”

Adler says that the system is best-suited for smaller productions and unilaterals but can certainly handle series.
