Campus Clips: The Ivy league Renews National Deal with NBC Sports Network; Conference USA Adds Five Schools

…The Ivy League and the NBC Sports Group announced a two-year renewal of their national television rights agreement that includes an increase in football games, and the first-ever rights for the NBC Sports Network to televise men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse games. Beginning with the upcoming 2012 football season and continuing through the 2014 lacrosse season, the NBC Sports Network will televise a minimum of six, but no more than 10, football games, six-to-10 men’s basketball games, and up to four men’s lacrosse games annually. Even more Ivy League games may be seen on a national basis within this agreement as the NBC Sports Network has acquired the rights to sublicense additional football and men’s basketball games to a national sports network…

…Conference USA announced Friday that it is adding five new schools in 2013. Commissioner Britton Banowsky said Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UT-San Antonio will join the league in all sports, with Charlotte’s new football program joining in 2015. Charlotte is rejoining Conference USA after several years in the Atlantic 10. Louisiana Tech has been in the WAC since 2001, and UTSA will play in the WAC next year before joining C-USA. FIU and North Texas will be leaving the Sun Belt Conference…

…In other conference realignment news, the Times-News is reporting that the University of Idaho is also contemplating its future with the WAC

…The Patriot League football opener and a matchup of the two winningest teams in League history have been selected for national television coverage in 2012, as both the Lafayette at Bucknell contest on Sept. 22 at Noon EST and the Colgate at Lehigh matchup on Nov. 10 at 12:30 p.m. EST will be televised on CBS Sports Network

…On Friday, Big 12 Conference Board of Directors Chairman Burns Hargis announced the unanimous selection of Bob Bowlsby as Commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. Bowlsby spent the last six years as director of athletics at Stanford University…

…According to Broadcasting & Cable, CBS Sports has kicked off its college football sales early, getting substantial price increases for its Southeastern Conference schedule.
