Campus Clips: Mountain West Announces Football TV Slate, May Add San Jose State and Utah State

With The Mountain West Network (The Mtn.) scheduled to close up shop on June 1, the conference’s football schedule was back on the bargaining table. ESPN, the CBS Sports Network, the NBC Sports Network and even CBS and ABC have a piece of a 25-game college football schedule involving the Mountain West, the conference announced today. CBS Sports Network, the conference’s rightsholder, will air eight games and sub-license other telecasts to the NBC Sports Network and ESPN. CBS will air Navy at Air Force on Oct. 6. NBCSN has 10 telecasts and ESPN or ESPN2 four, one of which could wind up on ABC…

…In other MWC news, San Jose State and Utah State will join the conference in 2013 and an official announcement could come as early as today, sources told CBSSports.com. Last week CBSSports.com first reported the Spartans and Aggies were expected to join the league in 2013 and reported two months ago about the possibility of both teams joining the MWC. … According to a story in the Dallas Morning News, both Oklahoma and Texas have tentatively agreed to continue their rivalry series at the Cotton Bowl through 2020. Dallas city officials have committed approximately $25.5 million in improvements to the stadium in an effort to keep the game at the Cotton Bowl. According to USA Today, the age of the stadium concerns both schools. And the specter of Cowboy Stadium owned by Jerry Jones being a possible threat to grab the game after the current agreement expires in 2015…

… Butler University will join the Atlantic 10 Conference beginning with the 2013-2014 season, President James M. Danko announced on Tuesday. The A-10 is also rumored to be close to landing George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth, both from the Colonial Athletic Association.
