College Football Kicks Off with Multiple New Daktronics Installations

In the waning weeks of summer, anticipation grew for the return of football season and practices began taking place at colleges and universities across the country. A number of those schools opened their season with new LED video displays from Daktronics of Brookings, SD.

Daktronics helped the University of Illinois (UI) upgrade Memorial Stadium with integrated video display and sound systems. The main display measures 36 feet high by 96 feet wide.

“We are excited to be working with Daktronics to enhance the video display and sound system at Memorial Stadium,” says UI Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. “The new displays will bring HD quality video to our fans and will greatly enhance the game-day atmosphere. In addition, our video displays and added ribbon boards will now be visible by almost every seat in the stadium and will allow us to provide more statistics, out-of-town scores and event information to everyone in attendance.”

The University of New Mexico (UNM) also opted to improve their event atmosphere with a new display from Daktronics, the largest single LED video display in the Mountain West at 32 feet high by 80 feet wide.

“This LED display is an important and necessary step in pushing Lobo football and our game-day experience in University Stadium to a new level,” says Paul Krebs, Vice President for Athletics, UNM. “We are committed to enhancing the overall fan experience and turning Branch Field into one of the top home-field advantages in the Mountain West.”
