SVG Summit Showcase Preview: A Roundup of Exhibitor Offerings, Part 1

The 2013 SVG Summit is fast approaching and will host more exhibitors on the Technology Showcase floor than ever before. In the weeks leading up to the Summit, SVG is highlighting the new products and latest technologies that will be on display at the New York Hilton on Dec. 16 and 17.

AJA Video Systems
TruZoom delivers high-quality region-of-interest workflows from 4K and Ultra HD video. The TruZoom software and external joystick controller drives AJA’s Corvid Ultra professional video I/O platform. It allows customers to scale any 16:9 region within 4K frames to HD in real time, making it ideal for sports broadcast, live event production, professional A/V, and digital film.

TruZoom features region-of-interest scaling for HD extraction from 4K and Ultra HD sources; high-quality scaling using the AJA Corvid Ultra with TruScale; support for high-frame-rate (HFR) and 4:4:4 workflows; work with real-time signals or recorded uncompressed files; instant real-time playback and interaction at the highest quality; all parameters are key-frameable; intuitive interface with on-screen indicators; external joystick and keypad controller; optional real-time RAW debayer firmware for Canon C500. It is compatible with the latest HP workstations running Windows.

Calrec
Callisto, a brand-new audio console for live broadcasters, is designed for broadcast professionals needing to easily produce creative and engrossing broadcast audio but may not require as many resources as the company’s Apollo and Artemis consoles.

Callisto’s lean construction keeps components and materials to a minimum. Disciplined power distribution means the console is around 30% more efficient than a comparable Artemis Light, its closest stable mate. Service access is from the top of the console, and the entire control surface can be replaced by removing just six screws.

In designing the new console, Calrec focused on ensuring that Callisto’s highly intuitive GUI would be suitable for a broad range of operator levels. Users control the console via 17-in. multi-touchscreen inspired by familiar tablet technology, with a straightforward interface that uses established fingering to navigate the system.

ChyronHego
Paint, an advanced sports-production analysis tool, is used to visually analyze game play by graphically enhancing and highlighting video using a variety of telestration tools. Within a typical hour of a game, dozens of telestrated clips can be created live or stored for replays or postmatch analysis.

Also being showcased is Virtual Placement, a powerful tool that allows the addition of virtual graphics within live video. Without the need for specialized camera encoders or lengthy calibration processes, virtual graphics can be placed into a scene within minutes of setup, ready for use in a multitude of applications.

Cobalt Digital
Cobalt Digital will bring its latest and most versatile Quad 3G/HD/SD-SDI distribution amplifier to market at the SVG Summit. The new DA offers four 1×4, two 1×8, or single 1×16 capabilities from a single openGear card providing a solution to applications requiring multiple distribution outputs. This card can be reclocking or non-reclocking.

In addition, Cobalt is extending fiber transport solutions with its growing range of Blue Box Group throwdown modules offering compact capabilities, and a series of quad, triple, dual, and single CWDM fiber cards with variable router features. ST, SC, and FC connectors are all available to meet customers’ specific requirements.

FOR-A
The ZE-ONE 4K extraction system, which will have its U.S. debut, was developed for use with FOR-A’s FT-ONE 4K super-slow-motion camera, which will also be exhibited. FOR-A will also highlight its FA-1010 multichannel signal processor.

First shown at this year’s IBC Show, ZE-ONE allows FT-ONE users to frame and extract desired 4K image areas to capture the action for HD replays. The FT-ONE offers users the ability to simultaneously record and play back super-slow-motion images at full 4K resolution. Enabling high-speed recording at up to 900 frames per second, the FT-ONE has been used in production of a variety of professional sports events, including football, wakeboarding, automobile racing, rugby games, and ice cross downhill competitions.

Grass Valley
GV will showcase its latest innovations in sports-broadcast production, offering business flexibility and a streamlined workflow for capture, fast replay, and multiplatform distribution. Solutions include the GV Director nonlinear production solution, combining the functionality of a switcher, video server, graphics generator, and multiviewer in one application; the K2 Dyno S replay controller, a dynamic replay controller providing a powerful and affordable means to deliver engaging highlight packages; and the LDX Series and LDX Compact series of advanced imaging cameras, offering a new level of business flexibility by using one hardware platform with the flexible GV-eLicense upgrade model.

MultiDyne
BullDog field fiber transport system packs endless functionality into a compact, rugged package. Using it, professional camera operators can significantly extend the transmission distance of camera signals, including HD-SDI video, audio, intercom, control data, GPIOs, tally, and power. In addition to transporting any camera signal over a single fiber cable, the BullDog can efficiently transport up to eight HD-SDI signals in any direction. Designed for sports and ENG applications, the cost-effective and scalable system is easily configured to support a wide range of existing and next-generation signals. With a low-weight battery pack, it gives users the option of adding MultiDyne’s JUICE power supply.

Part 2 of this series will run on Friday, Dec. 6.
