NBC Sports Group Offers NHL Fans Every Playoff Game Every Night

The NBC Sports Group hit the ground running on Wednesday night, broadcasting a tripleheader of 2014 Stanley Cup Playoff games that did not disappoint. A come-from-behind victory by the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal’s overtime goal in Tampa Bay, and the Anaheim Ducks’ first-period three-goal barrage against the Dallas Stars promise an exciting postseason for the Peacock.

“I would say the hockey gods are smiling on us right now,” says Executive Producer Sam Flood of the first-round matchups.

For the third straight year, NBC Sports will cover every game every night throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In order to televise as many as five games on a given day/night during the first round, NBC Sports Group will present matchups on NBC, NBCSN, NHL Network, and NBCUniversal business channel CNBC in primetime.

For the second year, the NBC Sports team will have the state-of-the-art Stamford facility at its disposal. “With up to five games in one night during the playoffs, we need two studios for all the pregame, postgame, and intermission reports,” says Flood. “The new facility affords us two world-class studios for our NBCSN and CNBC shows. In addition, we have a state-of-the-art central tape area that flows content around the building.”

Through NBC Sports’0 regional networks, comprehensive coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will be provided daily via NBC Sports’ lineup of Comcast SportsNet RSNs. Comcast SportsNet will provide the hometown fans of the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks, and Boston Bruins with comprehensive coverage throughout their teams’ Stanley Cup Playoff runs, including exclusive regional coverage of first-round games, pre- and post-game shows, and extensive online coverage via Comcast SportsNet’s team of NHL Insiders.

For teams that advance past the first round, NBC Sports regional networks will deliver extensive pre- and post-game coverage as well as breaking news and analysis throughout each team’s playoff run.

NBC Sports Live Extra — a live-streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets — will live-stream all games airing on NBC, NBCSN, and CNBC, including comprehensive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final. The vast majority of games will be live-streamed via TV Everywhere. The second-screen product can also be accessed on desktops at NBCSports.com/liveextra.

Throughout the two-month postseason, NBC Sports plans to keep its focus squarely on storytelling. “Our philosophy does not change for the playoffs,” says Flood. “The game and the players are the stars.”
