Southland Conference to Institute HD Football Instant Replay in 2014

The Southland Conference and DVSport, Inc. have partnered to provide the league and its 11 football-playing institutions with the replay technology and workflow of DVSport’s HD Replay system beginning with the 2014 season.
Southland-conference-logoDVSport’s system provides replay officials with a crystal-clear picture quality and state-of-the-art controls to assist them with reviewing each and every play. The Southland Conference is the first NCAA Football Championship Subdivision league to implement a full-time instant replay solution for all home games, regardless of television coverage.

DVSport’s HD Replay system has made an impact on numerous Southland teams that have qualified and advanced though the NCAA Division I Football Championship in recent years, as all rounds of the playoffs include replay covered by DVSport.  In fact, three Southland programs hosted NCAA playoff games in 2013, when the DVSport equipment was installed and used in conjunction with ESPN productions to provide replay for each playoff contest.  Additionally, Southland teams often play games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents that utilize the DVSport equipment.

“We have had a great experience with DVSport in recent years, and we are very proud to become the first FCS league to fully implement the system,” Southland Commissioner Tom Burnett said.  “Further, as we begin our eighth year in our officiating consortium with the Big 12 and Mountain West conferences, our replay staffing needs will be comfortably met as both of those leagues also partner with DVSport.  As an extension of our officiating program, we are planning for replay to further ensure the quality of the officiating expected by our football programs.”

Southland representatives, replay officials and communicators got a first-hand look at DVSport’s HD Replay system at their officiating clinic last weekend in Irving, Texas. Officials received hands-on training with the equipment while reviewing both the rules and philosophy of instant replay at the clinic.

“We are proud to partner with the Southland as they take the step forward in football replay by bringing our HD instant replay technology to their institutions and Conference that are leaders in FCS,” Keith Lowe, Chief Operating Officer at DVSport, Inc., said. “Our experience at all levels gives us the ability to work with new institutions to solve the operational items needed to create a successful replay environment and maintain an effective and efficient game day process.”

DVSport’s HD Replay system provides replay officials with the tools and technology to quickly and effectively establish indisputable video evidence through a minimum of four HD camera feeds to confirm or reverse calls on the field.  DVSport’s uncompressed HD picture quality, combined with unrivaled functionality, ensures an efficient review system to assist the Southland’s on-field officiating. The Southland joins an impressive list of conferences and the NCAA itself who currently utilize this industry-leading HD Replay system.

The Southland will staff the replay operations within a press box booth at each stadium with a replay official, a communicator, a technician and a sideline assistant.
