Oklahoma State Adds Abekas Mira

Oklahoma State University has installed an eight-channel Abekas Mira Instant Replay server with two Mira Control Surfaces. The new Mira system is part of a major upgrade to the athletics department’s broadcast facilities, designed to entertain and inform fans attending football games in Boone Pickens Stadium and basketball games in the Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Abekas Logo Hi-ResThe Mira Instant Replay is operated in dual-user mode with two Mira Control Surfaces. One operator generates instant replays from five fixed camera angles and one roaming, wireless camera. The second operator creates highlight packages for replay during breaks in the game. Delivering replays and highlight packages quickly to the digital scoreboards in the venues was a key reason for the upgrade to Mira.

“Mira does everything we need it to do at a fraction of the price of competitive systems,” says C.J. Lickert, Executive Producer, Orange Power Studios, Oklahoma State University. “Thanks to its incredibly intuitive interface, our operators were comfortable using Mira after just a few hours.”

In addition to game-day action from the playing field or court, the Mira is used to produce the Cowboy Football Roundup, a weekly production distributed on Fox Sports Southwest. For this production Mira is used to cut a multi-cam, live-to-tape recording of the studio-format show from three camera angles. This innovative use of Mira Instant Replay was tried in rehearsal and was so successful it has now become the standard way these shows are produced.

“Oklahoma State is yet another great example of how Mira is becoming the standard in college live sports event coverage,” says Junaid Sheikh, CEO, Abekas. “It’s great to see OSU finding multiple uses for Mira on game day.”
