SEC Gymnastics Meets To Air Live for First Time in Conference History

On Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. ET, Southeastern Conference gymnastics will debut live on SEC Network with the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics National Champions, Florida, facing conference opponent Auburn. The SEC has won nine of the last 10 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics National Championship titles and for the first time in conference history, 10 of the regular season meets will be televised live.  In total, 21 SEC meets will be carried on either SEC Network, ESPN2, or ESPNU this season.

“Taking on 21 regular season meets and airing ten of them live is a tremendous undertaking, as SEC gymnastics has not traditionally been covered live,” said coordinating producer Meg Aronowitz. “Our technology team is working to develop a scoring interface system that will allow us to update scores live to the viewer in a sport where scoring is not instantaneous and can be challenged. Our goal is to showcase the athleticism of the gymnasts and present the meets to the viewer at home as if they were watching live from the stands. The SEC Network platform gives us the opportunity to do just that.”

The schedule opens with a Friday night doubleheader of live meets and continues with seven consecutive Friday night showcases of live SEC gymnastics. In addition to opening night, the schedule is highlighted with Florida at LSU – the 2014 NCAA Championship Runner-Up – on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and the Alabama at Georgia rivalry on Friday, Feb. 20.
