Miami Hurricanes Installs Daktronics Centerhung Video Display System at BankUnited Center

Miami Hurricanes fans will soon have added reason for excitement as Daktronics has partnered with the University of Miami to design, manufacture and install a new centerhung LED video display system at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida. With installation beginning earlier this November, Hurricanes’ basketball teams will be enjoying the new system by early 2015.

“We are excited to have a new video/scoreboard at the BankUnited Center,” said Tim Wise, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Facilities and Event Operations. “The new Daktronics system will be a great enhancement to the fan and student-athlete experience. Everyone will love the new features and how this system will help to create a true home court advantage. We have enjoyed a long relationship with Daktronics and it is great working with them on this project.”

The centerhung display will measure approximately 10.5 feet high by 92.5 feet wide and wrap around the entire square-shaped structure with seamless corners. It will feature 10 millimeter line spacing and provide excellent image clarity and contrast to every seat in the arena.

The display can be used as one full video image around the entire structure or for four sides of full video and instant replays. It can also be separated into multiple zones or sections to show any combination of video, statistics, graphics and sponsor information.

At the bottom of the structure, Daktronics will install a ring display that measures approximately 2 feet high by 71.5 feet in circumference. It will feature 15 millimeter line spacing and will provide the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events as well as displaying up-to-the-minute statistics and other game information.

“We are honored that the University of Miami has chosen to once again partner with Daktronics,” said Mike Kempany, Daktronics sales representative. “This long-awaited upgrade will breathe new life into Bank United Center for Hurricanes games and other events. With the installation of a larger hoist, Miami was able to take on their new exciting design while providing a much larger video canvas for the ultimate game-day experience. We look forward to witnessing the reaction of the fans!”

I-94 Speedway Installs Daktronics Video Display
Daktronics installed a new video display for I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, allowing the track to bring in additional sponsorship revenue. Being one state away allowed for a quick-turn installation to get everything up and running at I-94 Speedway in fast order.

“I believe the new display has had an immediate impact at our race track,” said Brent Eggen with I-94 Speedway. “We have been able to highlight past shows and run commercials for future shows to keep fans informed on what’s happening. We were also able to attract new sponsors and have multiple sponsors shown in a single, highly-visible location. We have received very positive responses from our sponsors who like the flexibility of changing their messaging from week to week.”

The video display installed at I-94 Speedway features 20 millimeter line spacing and measures approximately 8 feet high by 15 feet wide. It provides a large digital canvas for advertisers and sponsors to show their messages to a captive audience of race fans.

“We’ve had a lot of interest from fans and drivers in a new lap counter with either a top three or top five position scoreboard,” added Eggen. “When you have 24 cars running 20-plus laps, it’s tough to keep track of who’s in what position.”

The track also installed a horizontal layout, 5-position scoreboard with a lap counter and timer beneath the video display. It measures 6 feet high by 20 feet wide with a 24-inch digit size so the information can be seen from across the track.

“The fact that Daktronics was just right down the road from us a few hours away played a huge role in our decision,” said Eggen. “Our display and scoreboard where ordered in the fall and installed in the fall, ready for the 2014 race season with no issues at all.”

“Daktronics looks forward to supporting our friends at I-94 Speedway for many years to come,” said Eric Cain, Daktronics regional sales representative. “I-94 Speedway is leading the charge for oval tracks throughout the country in finding innovative ways to engage and entertain their fans, fill seats and attract sponsors. We are very excited for the opportunity to provide the technology that allows them to do just that.”
