PA’s video content serves broadcasters and editors with both ‘consumer ready’ and ‘newsroom ready’ media stories, the latter being suitable for repurposing and cutting into news reports. The archive, hosted in the cloud on Microsoft’s Azure platform, is currently around 10TB but is constantly growing, with anywhere from 10 to 70+ videos added to the site in any one day based on news content from around the world.

The upgraded system enables the video team to make its homepage more customisable and consumer-friendly, allowing administrators to curate the most recent content into configurable sections based on content descriptions: latest news, latest sport or latest entertainment. There is a powerful and intelligent search mechanism using keywords to find content more quickly, and extra filters within search results to further categorize content. In addition there is an added option to clearly display the expiry date for content that has a limited license.

“We wanted to rejuvenate our video management and distribution solution to enable our users to find the clips they need quickly and easily, with a consumer-focused interface,” says Alex Rothwell, Head of Video, Press Association. “The new version of Imagen has given us all the tools we need to offer better search methods and a more user-friendly environment.”

“We have enjoyed a longstanding relationship with PA, and it’s great to see how our latest developments are making such a difference to their customers and their business,” says Tom Blake, Managing Director, Imagen.
