NVIDIA CEO: Generative AI Has Created a New Industry, Is Transforming Industry

In NVIDIA GTC keynote, Jensen Huang cites latest advances

During a Monday keynote kicking off the four-day NVIDIA GTC conference and expo in San Jose, CA, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang described the latest advances in artificial-intelligence (AI) and noted his company’s expanded partnerships with major industry companies.

“Industry is being transformed — not just ours — because the computer is the single most important instrument of society today,” he told the audience of developers.

Huang cited the large number of non–IT-related companies that are presenting at the semiannual event, noting that they have a need for “accelerated computing to solve problems that normal computers can’t.”

Much of the demand for generative AI today, meanwhile, is driven by the late-2022 introduction of ChatGPT, which, he said, “captured the world’s imagination [and] helped people realize the importance and the capabilities of artificial intelligence.”

In 2023, “generative AI emerged, and a new industry [was born],” he said, “because the software never existed before. We are now producing software [and] using computers to write software [and] producing software that never existed before that.”

It is a “brand-new category,” he noted, “[that] took share from nothing.”

At GTC, NVIDIA has announced deals with several large partners:

  • Microsoft and NVIDIA have expanded their longstanding collaboration with new integrations leveraging the latest NVIDIA generative-AI and Omniverse technologies across Microsoft Azure, Azure AI services, Microsoft Fabric, and Microsoft 365.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) and NVIDIA have extended their collaboration to advance GenAI innovation, announcing that the new NVIDIA Blackwell GPU platform — unveiled at GTC — is coming to AWS.
  • SAP and NVIDIA have partnered to accelerate enterprise customers’ ability to harness the transformative power of data and generative AI across SAP’s portfolio of cloud solutions and applications.
  • Oracle and NVIDIA have expanded their collaboration to deliver AI solutions. Oracle’s distributed cloud, AI infrastructure, and generative-AI services, combined with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and generative-AI software, enable governments and enterprises to deploy AI factories.
  • Google Cloud and NVIDIA have deepened their partnership to provide the machine-learning community with technology that accelerates efforts to easily build, scale and manage generative-AI applications.
